How Zakat Is Calculated
Zakat is due once your qualifying wealth has stayed above the nisab threshold for one full lunar year.
2.5%
The Rate
One fortieth of your qualifying wealth — savings, gold, silver, business stock and receivables.
1 Year
The Hawl
Wealth must remain above nisab for one complete lunar year before Zakat falls due on it.
Nisab
The Threshold
87.48 g of gold (7.5 tola) or 612.36 g of silver (52.5 tola). The silver nisab is lower, so more people qualify to give.
A note on rulings: the figures above reflect the position held by the majority of scholars. Individual circumstances differ — on questions specific to your own wealth, please consult a qualified scholar you trust.

Zakat Questions
What is the nisab for Zakat?
Nisab is the minimum wealth you must hold before Zakat becomes due. It is measured against 87.48 g of gold (7.5 tola) or 612.36 g of silver (52.5 tola). Many scholars recommend using the silver nisab, as it is the lower threshold and therefore benefits more recipients.
How much Zakat do I pay?
2.5% — one fortieth — of qualifying wealth held for one full lunar year (hawl) above the nisab.
Is my Zakat kept separate from general donations?
Yes. Mark your transfer with the reference ZAKAT and it is recorded separately from general donations, so it is spent only on recipients eligible under Shariah.
How much of my Zakat actually reaches people?
The Foundation operates a 0% administrative deduction policy. Administrative costs are met by the executive committee members themselves, so your Zakat goes to relief rather than overheads.
Can I give Zakat if I live outside Pakistan?
The Foundation is currently able to receive donations within Pakistan. Local NPOs in Pakistan must complete additional regulatory clearances before accepting foreign contributions, and we will not accept funds we are not yet authorised to receive.
